CPI today said the passage of the Indo-US nuclear deal by the American Congress did not make "any difference" to its position as the Left parties believe that the accord is not in the country's interest.
"It doesn't make any difference to our position. We Left parties continue to oppose the nuclear agreement. We do not think it is in the country's interest," CPI National Secretary D Raja said.
Giving his reaction to the clearance of the deal by the US Senate, he said, "in fact the industrial and the military establishment in the US were somehow desperate to get this agreement concluded as early as possible because they are looking for a big market in India.
"They are desperately trying to get out of the economic, financial crisis that is going on in the US and the UPA Government is equally desperate is to show that they have achieved something," Raja said.
