Number portability to be rolled out by the end of 2009

Number portability services will be rolled out by the end of next year across India, said Siddharth Behura, secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT), on the sidelines of a conference. In metro cities, the services will available by June 2009, Behura added.

DoT will invite bids within a week for appointing the agency that will facilitate the number portability services.The agency is likely to be appointed within three months, DoT secretary said.
