Oakridge International School has announced the launch of its International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in Hyderabad. |
The International Baccalaureate Organisation is an educational foundation headquartered in Geneva with IBDP being its pre-university programme. |
Addressing the media, Janajit Ray, principal of Oakridge International School, said, "We will start the programme from July 2006. The two-year programme will cost Rs 2.5 lakh per year." |
According to Laurie Ince, regional manager (diploma programme), IB Asia Pacific, "There has been an explosion of interest in this programme in the Asia Pacific region in recent years. Two years ago, there were 108 schools authorised to provide this programme and by the end of this year the number will increase to almost 200 in Asia Pacific." |
The programme will involve six subjects. One subject must be chosen from each of the five groups namely first language, second language, individuals and societies, experimental sciences, and mathematics and computer science. |
The sixth subject can be chosen from arts or from the other five groups. |
"Core to these subjects will be research that involves an extended essay of around 4,000 words from each student besides creativity, action and service which will involve community service," Ince said. |
The assessment will be both internal and external and will follow the grading system. Students keen on selecting three science subjects for taking up engineering or medical streams in India will be allowed to do so. |
