The Odisha government has missed the commercial tax collection target for 2013-14 by about 4.74% though it is higher by 12.73% over the previous year.
The overall commercial tax collection totaled to Rs 12551.68 crore by end of March against the state government's budgetary estimate of Rs 13,176.09 crore, a decline of 4.74%.
Total sales tax collection for 2013-14 has fallen short of the target of Rs 11, 500.00 crore. The sales tax collection stood at Rs 10781.64 crore, including Rs 9935.58 crore towards VAT and Rs 846.06 crore as Central Sales Tax (CST). The sales tax collection, however, was higher by 11.79% over Rs 9644.17 crore collected in 2012-13.
Only Entry Tax has posted a growth of 7.73% to Rs 1615.92 crore against the target of Rs 1500.00 crore fixed for the year.
Odisha Entertainment Tax (OET) and Odisha Luxury Tax (OLT) collection at Rs 12.78 core, has declined by 20.57% during the period against the target of Rs 16.09 crore. But the revenue from OET and OLT was 30.76% more than the collection under this head in 2012-13.
Professional tax too has declined to Rs 141.33 crore against the budgetary estimate of Rs 160.00 crore, a drop of 11.67%.

But the total commercial tax collection has clocked Rs 1417.61 crore (about Rs 12.73%) more compared to the previous fiscal's figure of Rs 11,134.07 crore.
In March, the state government's tax collection was lower than the amount collected in the previous corresponding period. During this month, the commercial tax collection stood at Rs 1952.96 crore against Rs 2272.58 crore netted in the corresponding month of the previous fiscal, a dip of Rs 16.37%.
