Continuing its efforts to boost skills development in the state in a big way, the Odisha government on Wednesday inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with nine training institutes to ensure placement of youths in various demand driven sectors.
The state government inked pacts with Basix Academy for Building Lifelong Employability, Britti Proshikshan Pvt Ltd, Construction Industry Development Council, Globsyn Skills Development Ltd, Gram Tarang Employability Training Services Ltd, Institute of Computer Accountants, Srei Sahaj e-village and Teamlease Services Ltd.
Together, these nine institutes will offer diversified skills training to 34,183 persons within a year in sectors like information technology, telecom, hospitality, retail, tourism and security services. These training institutes will have to ensure at least 75 per cent placement for the trained youth. The MoUs were signed in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
“I am glad that the training providers have come forward to partner with the State Employment Mission for undertaking Skill Development Programmes in the state for the benefit of the unemployed youth. The State Mission will be providing opportunities for school dropouts, especially to tribal communities,” Patnaik said.
“The major sectors which have scope for training and employment are construction, apparel, manufacturing and service Industry. With the professional expertise of the training partners, we will not only ensure quality training but also provide gainful employment opportunities to a good number of candidates in different sectors,” he added.
The state government has set a target to train one million youth during the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17) of which 0.17 million are expected to be trained this fiscal. Earlier, the state government had inked MoUs with 20 industrial players to secure jobs for eligible youths of families displaced by their projects.
According to a survey by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), there will be annual requirement of 140,000-180,000 trained personnel in highly skilled, semi-skilled, unskilled and non-executive workforce in the metal and manufacturing sectors.
