The offshore Uran-Trombay gas pipeline of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation has developed a leak around 5 km from the shore.
Petroleum minister Ram Naik, ONGC chairman Subir Raha and chairman of the Gas Authority of India Limited have rushed to the spot to inspect the damage.
The pipeline, with a capacity of 2.5 million cubic metre a day, supplies gas to GAIL for distribution by Mahanagar Gas Limited.

ONGC sources said the gas supply was continuing uninterrupted and that there was no stoppage in gas production either.
However, the sources said ONGC engineers were still to decide on how to plug the leak without disrupting supplies.
