Patnaik made this request during a tele-conference with the deputy prime minister LK Advani here today.
Advani was holding tele-conference with chief ministers of five states including Orissa on disaster mitigation, official sources said.
During the discussion, Patnaik apprised Advani of the flood situation in the state and the steps undertaken by the government with regard to rescue and relief operation.
The chief minister pleaded that the state should be provided with an interim assistance of Rs 250 crore to tackle the situation, sources said.
The tele-conference was organised to mark the inauguration of Indian Disaster Resource Network. The deputy prime minister held discussion with chief ministers of Orissa, Gujarat, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Assam.
During the discussion Patnaik further pointed out that Orissa was the first state to set up a Disaster Mitigation Authority in the aftermath of the 1999 super cyclone.
While expressing his concern over the flood havoc in the state, Advani reportedly assured the chief minister that the Centre will fully cooperate the administration in dealing with the situation.
