In pursuant to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the state IT department and the Science and Technology Park of India (STPI), the Orissa government will provide 3 acres land for the proposed STPI Centre at Ambapua near Berhampur.

The premium of Rs 85.64 lakhs for this piece of land will be waived by the state government. The state cabinet chaired by the chief minister Naveen Patnaik approved a proposal to this effect. While STPI Centres are working in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, the government wants another STPI Centre to come up at Berhampur. This is expected to promote and assist fast growth of the software industries in the state, chief secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy said.

Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting Tripathy said, the cabinet approved a restructuring of the service cadre of Orissa Administrative Service (OAS), Orissa Financial Services (OFS) and Orissa Engineering Services (OES) and creation of two separate cadres namely Orissa Revenue Services (ORS) and Orissa Taxation and Accounts Service (OTAS).

Accordingly, the fresh entrants to the OAS, OFS and OES will get class-1 (junior) grade. While 50 percent of the total posts will be filled through direct recruitment, the remaining 50 percent will be selected through promotion from ORS.
