Orissa to face peak power deficit for 9 months in 2011-12: CEA

Total energy deficit is pegged at 3,919 million units.

Orissa will face peak hour deficit in power supply during nine months of the current fiscal, according to the Load Generation Balance Report for 2011-12 of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) under the Union Ministry of Power.

CEA said, supply will exceed the demand only in three months this fiscal. These months are August, September and October. The projected demand in these months will be 3500 MW, 3560 MW and 3600 MW with the availability being 3588 MW, 3733 MW and 3836 MW respectively

The maximum shortfall was 19.9 per cent, that is 688 MW in April, 2011. In March next year, the state will bear 588 MW deficit with availability being 3112 MW against the demand of 3700 MW.

The demand eclipsing availability of power will be least in July during this year. The demand for the month is projected at 3500 MW with the supply at 2870 MW, making the deficit only 43 MW (1.2 per cent).

For November and December, the demand will be 3615 MW and 3625 MW as against the availability of 3491 MW and 3375 respectively. In these two months, anticipated shortage of power supply will be 124 MW and 250 MW at the rate of 3.4 per cent and 6.9 per cent.

In January and February next year, there will be anticipated short supply of 8.5 per cent and 8.6 per cent respectively. The demand for these two months is same (3680 MW) while the availability is 3366 MW and 3362 MW.

Meanwhile total energy requirement for this fiscal is 25430 million units (MU) as against the availability of 21511 MU with a deficit of 3919 MU (15.4 per cent).
