Metro Projects
Railway Minister Nitish Kumar has increased the outlay on metro projects by 47 per cent to Rs 445 crore for 2003-04.
The outlay includes multilateral funding for the Mumbai urban transport project. While the Railways had budgeted the expenditure on metro projects at Rs 268 crore in 2002-03, it has now been revised to Rs 303 crore.
Kumar said the first phase of the Mumbai urban transport project had been approved. The project envisages upgradation of railway infrastructure , for which the World Bank has sanctioned Rs 1,613 crore. The project, to be completed in five years, is expected to reduce overcrowding in Mumbai
