The Department of Heavy Industries is also in bad shape with 28 enterprises accounting for outstanding dues of of Rs 412 crore. The remainder of dues are apread across 16 enterprises in 11 ministries and departments.
The statutory dues are around Rs 1,795 crore. The top three offending ministries in terms of statutory dues are the same as those in case of total outstanding dues.
The coal ministry has the highest outstandings at Rs 512.24 crore, of which Rs 512 crore is on account of Bharat Coking Coal alone. Central Coalfields has outstanding statutory dues of only Rs 0.22 crore.
The textiles ministry is the next, with eleven of NTC subsidiaries accounting for outstandings of Rs 308 crore, while National Jute has outstandings of Rs 192.5 crore. Birds, Jute and Exports under the same ministry has outstanding statutory dues of only Rs 1.2 crore.
In case of the steel ministry, Rs 79 crore are outstanding on the account of Hindustan Steel Works, Rs 47 crore on account of Bharat Refractories and Rs 45 crore are outstanding statutory dues on the accounts of Indian Iron and Steel Co Ltd.
The Department of Heavy Industries has 28 defaulting companies and a total statutory outstanding of Rs 347.3 crore, while the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals has outstandings of Rs 99 crore on account of four enterprises.
