About 62,000 police personnel and 156 platoons from neighbouring states will be on duty across Karnataka during the Lok Sabha polls, a top police official said today.
A total of 52 companies comprising 156 platoons were sought from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala as additional forces. Arrangements had been made to deploy 2616 mobile police teams in the state, Karnataka DGP Ajai Kumar Singh told reporters here.
In naxal-infested areas special arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polls. Around 18 police stations fall in this area, he said. According to Singh, 9285 cases have been registered under various sections against 17,750 persons in connection with violation of poll code.
and also against criminals. Goods worth Rs 1.37 crore and Rs 18.37 crore cash has been seized, he said.
To a question on terror threat during polls, he said there has been no specific advisory. There are a total of 47,447 polling stations in the state.
