Paging industry unhappy over bailout sops

Paging service providers have termed the sops announced by the government on Wednesday as woefully inadequate to bail out the beleaguered sector.

Representatives are planning to petition the government for a compensation package. Representatives from the paging industry are now planning to petition the government on the need for a compensation package for the sector on the same lines as that offered earlier to the GSM cellphone operators.

"A lot needed to be done to salvage the sector which is reeling under the onslaught of the mobile phone services," Pravin Kumar, managing director of Sanjay Dalmia's DSS Mobile Communications told Business Standard.

Kumar said that the industry needed to be compensated on the lines of GSM cellular operators after the unified licence regime was implemented, when telecom operators were given relief by way of reduction in revenue share.
