Set to become Pakistan's new prime minister, Yousuf Raza Gillani today vowed to restore the supremacy of Parliament but refused to be drawn into the debate on how long his innings would last. He also remained non-committal on President Pervez Musharraf's fate.

"Parliament is a reflection of the people and their aspirations. We will work for the supremacy of Parliament. We will make Parliament supreme in policy-making," he told reporters shortly after filing his nomination papers for tomorrow's contest, which he is sure to win.

Replying to a question on whether he would maintain a working relationship with Musharraf or ask him to step down, Gillani merely said, "I'll follow the Constitution."
