The high-powered committee on containerisation has forwarded a slew of suggestions to the union ministry of shipping, road transport and highways to ease handling of container traffic at the Kolkata Port Trust(KoPT).The suggestions include immediate commissioning of the trailer parking yard, creation of additional space within the port and also pursue the customs department to work in two shifts, a KoPT release said today.P V K Mohan, chairman of the containerisation committee, and other members negotiated with A K Chanda, chairman of KoPT, on October 5.The talks centred around the short-term as well as long-term recommendations to be made to the union ministry of shipping, road transport and highways.The committee is expected to submit its report to the ministry this month.
