Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today appealed to his partymen to desist from making remarks that would trigger “communal passions”, in the wake of some leaders coming under the Election Commission scanner for allegedly making ‘pro-Hindutva’ speeches.

“Remarks or statements that are personal in nature should be avoided. All Hindus and Muslims are like sons of a same mother. Let us not make statements that evoke communal passions,” Yeddyurappa said.

BJP MLA Renukacharya, state unit spokesman C T Ravi and Minister for Energy K S Eswarappa’s remarks in support of ‘Hindutva’ had triggered a controversy with Congress and JD(S) slamming them for their speeches and complaining to the EC.

“Congress will be routed in the Lok Sabha polls,” Yeddyurappa said after welcoming former Congress MLA, V Somanna, into the party. The chief minister described the spate of defections from other parties to BJP as “political polarisation”.
