India, China, Brazil and South Africa today issued a joint press release, according to website reports, to indicate that developed nations should be willing to contribute funds and share green technology if they want developing and poor nations to take adequate steps to protect the climate.

“We are in agreement on major issues including those related to the establishment of a second commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol, as well as shared vision for long-term cooperative action on climate change, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation to the impact of climate change, and the provision of finance and technology to support and enable these actions, taking into account the special needs of the least developed countries, the small island developing states and African countries,” the release stated.

The reports also quoted India's minister for environment and forests, Jairam Ramesh, that the four countries agreed to a strategy which involves jointly walking out of the Copenhagen conference if developed nations prevail on them. For instance, developed nations led by Denmark are trying to set the agenda of the conference by presenting a draft containing a set of specific proposals.

“We will coordinate our exit if any of our non-negotiable terms is violated,” Ramesh was quoted in the reports.
