While the per capita consumption of plastics in India has doubled over the last four years to eight kilograms in 2010, it is expected to be at par with global plastics per capita consumption of 27 kg by 2020.

Close to Rs 1.5 lakh crore investment is planned in the upstream industry to set up 11 petrochemical complexes across the country, which will enable setting up new plastic clusters around these complexes, R K Lohia, chairman, national executive committee, Plastindia 2012 pointed out. He added that this will, in turn, provide impetus for growth of polymer consumption to over 15 million tonnes by 2015.

He was speaking at the sidelines of an event by the Plastindia Foundation that today announced western India launch of Plastindia 2012, the eight international plastics exhibition, to be held between February 1 to 6 in Delhi.
