As per the information collected from the Gopalpur port, the cyclone wreaked widespread damage to the port infrastructure. As per a preliminary survey, the loss is expected at around Rs 360 crore and the survey work is underway by different international agencies, said Subrat Tarai, minister of state (independent charge), Commerce & Transport department in a written reply to the state assembly.
The minister informed that a report will be prepared in two weeks pertaining to the loss estimation and the resumption of port operations.

Similarly, Paradip port, the only major port in the state, has sustained a loss of Rs 82.71 crore for damage of port properties and Rs 3.59 crore towards indirect revenue due to the closure of port operations.
Paradip port has requested the Ministry of Shipping to grant the funds for restoration expenses, he added.
It may be noted, Phailin and subsequent floods in the state affected more than 21 million people across 18 districts and caused a wide spread damage to the power infrastructure. Crops in 860,000 hectares were also affected while over 800,000 houses were damaged.
