The Planning Commission has constituted a 20-member expert group to look at low carbon growth strategies for India. The group will be headed by Planning Commission member Kirit Parekh, senior sources disclosed late this evening.
Nitin Desai, who has been involved with the climate change negotiations and Jamshed Irani, director Tata Sons limited, are said to be some of the other members of this multi-sectoral group. This group will have representation from varied sectors such as industry, transport, agriculture, building, energy and forestry, sources said.
However, a likely member of the group said: “Nothing has been finalised as yet and the group is in the process of being formed. I have not started work as yet. Though it was mentioned to me that such a group is being formed, the matter is still under discussion”.
