Prime Minister Manmohan Singh leaves on a visit to Italy tomorrow for attending a Summit of G-8 leaders with five Outreach countries in which global economic downturn and steps to correct will dominate.

During the four-day visit to Coppito, Singh will also hold bilateral meetings with US President Barack Obama and some other world leaders who would be assembling there.

This will be the third meeting of the leaders of the eight developed countries and five major developing nations since the outbreak of global financial crisis last year.

Briefing reporters on the visit, Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon said the leaders will discuss the current situation and ways to promote economic recovery.

They would follow up on the decisions taken at the meeting of G-20 in London in April.

He underlined that the global problem needs a global solution as no single country can deal with the problem facing the world.

The leaders of G-5 Outreach countries, comprising Brazil, China, South Africa and Mexico besides India, would have meetings among themselves on July 8 before their meeting with leaders of eight developed nations the next day.

For the first time, a joint statement of G-8 and G-5 leaders will be issued, marking a say for these major developing nations in the world affairs.
