Petroleum Secretary Saurabh Chandra on Wednesday said a policy on marginal oil & gas fields would be ready in the next two or three months.

Marginal fields are discovered fields, considered uneconomical for development at a point, under the prevailing fiscal, technology or regulatory regime.

The government will also hold discussions with stakeholders on how to make coal-bed methane more effective. Government-controlled Oil and Natural Gas Corporation had earlier said its marginal field policy was so outdated that it did not find contractors to work for it, owing to poor investment returns.
