Post demonetisation, India losing Rs 25,000 crore in GDP everyday: West Bengal FM

Amit Mitra said earlier it was Rs 45,000 crore per day

The centres move to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes has resulted in the national GDP losing Rs 25,000 crore each day, West Bengal's finance minister Amit Mitra said on Wednesday.

Attributing this finding to Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Mitra said, "Demonetisation has hit hard the common man and the national GDP each day which accounted for Rs 45,000 crore per day has come down to Rs 25,000 crore."

As per Mitra, who is also the chairman of the Empowered Committee of state ministers to discuss the GST agenda said that post the sudden cancellation of the two banknotes, India has lost Rs 1.5 lakh crore total in its GDP.

Attending the Global Mining Summit 2016, he said mining has a huge potential in the state as it has the world's second largest coal deposit in the Deocha Pachami coal mines which has an estimated two million tonne.

The state government has also tied up with Kudremukh Iron Ore Company for iron ore deposit exploration in the state.

Additionally, six granite blocks have been identified and exploration has begun in three through competitive bidding.
