The country's electricity generation in January rose by 1.38 per cent year-on-year, supported by increased thermal power production and imports.
A Central Electricity Authority (CEA) data indicates that during the April-January period this fiscal, power generation registered a growth of 2.53 per cent, compared with the same period in 2007-08.
The country's total power generation, including imports from Bhutan, in the month of January is 61,163 million units (MU) as against 60,332 MU.
A major power contributor, the thermal sector, registered a reasonable growth rate of 4.26 per cent at 53,023 MU from 50,856 MU in the same period in 2007-08. From April to January, thermal-power generation has grown by 5.56 per cent to 4,83,705 MU from 4,58,238 MU last fiscal.
Meanwhile, the cumulative power generation during the 10-month period this financial year is recorded at 6,01,117 MU as compared to 5,86,267 MU in the corresponding period in 2007-08.
