Power is fine in Delhi, not water

The Delhi government today said the Capital was not facing any power shortage but the availability of water was not satisfactory. The Cabinet reviewed the power and water situation in the capital city.

Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit said, "There is no power shortage and enough power is available. However, there is a problem with the frequency. Low frequency due to the use of low-quality equipments in the neighbouring states have led to powercut in several areas."

There was no alarming situation in the power front and hence no need of any blame-game between the Transco and the distribution companies, she added.

The Cabinet also took a note of the problems related to water, after which, Dikshit said, "The situation is not satisfactory".

The cabinet discussed the Union water resources ministry's letter to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav to release 145 MGD water for the Sonia Vihar water treatment plant from June 1. Regarding the above, Dikshit said, "Even if they provide 80-90 MGD water, we can manage."

The chief minister said there was no meeting planned with the Uttar Pradesh government on the issue.

"We were asking for a meeting. But since the Uttar Pradesh government had been written to, there was no need for a meeting," she said.
