After calling off its joint venture with Wipro, the $6.5 billion Taiwanese computer major Acer Group Inc is all set to make a re-entry into India with a 100 per cent-owned subsidiary.
The subsidiary is for manufacturing and assembling of Acer's branded personal computers, notebook computers and providing customer services.
Acer's re-entry in India will be through its Singapore subsidiary -- Acer Computer International Limited. The new venture is to be set up in Bangalore. The subsidiary proposes to launch several new products from the Acer stable.
The Acer proposal for setting up a wholly owned subsidiary is, however, likely to face problems in getting governmental approval because of the new foreign investment guideline (press note 18).
