The use of public-private partnership (PPP) in the vote counting process in the Mysore Parliamentary constituency will ensure that results will be out extremely fast, perhaps for the first time in Karnataka.

District returning officer (DRO) P Manivannan said today, while briefing on the arrangements made for counting votes, that the counting process was supported by the hi-speed data networking over optic fibre cable (OFC) which cuts the time to reach the audience.
Data will be uploaded immediately after tablewise counting, unlike round wise last time, using Genesys software. Round wise and Assembly wise data will also be entered using the web-monitoring system. NIC has provided the internet link at the counting centre.
Explaining the salient features of the technology adopted to provide election results at a record time, the technology team head G L Shekar said a file transfer protocol (FTP), with data like the bytes of the DRO and candidates with video visuals and images, has been created.
Data captured at the electronic voting machine (EVM) level itself will be provided. This will give table-wise results, flowing from 148 tables set up up in 15 halls, where voting will be in progress.

As a result, data transfer happens at high speed. From the server, all clients are served. A high-speed 10 mb port has been set up for the purpose. Electronic media can access the data from any part of India, live at the studio itself.
“This has been exclusively created to provide the results and related coverage on real-time basis from 7.30 am on Saturday,” Shekar, professor at the National Institute of Engineering, Mysore, said.
Manivannan told Business Standard for the first time FTP was being used in counting process.
“This has been possible because of a dedicated team comprising of personnel from National Institute of Engineering, National Informatics Centre and Internet service provider Yashtel. As this was not possible at the government level, PPP has been embarked upon.”
Probably this was the first time that such a high-end technology was being adopted in the election process in the state, if not in the country, he added.

Assembly constituencies (58.89 per cent) locked in 1,801 EVMs will begin at 8 am at the Regional Institute of Education, in Manasa Gangotri campus by 489 counting personnel, assisted by 600 others and supervised by 15 Assistant Election Officers.
Randomisation will commence at 5 am after which tables will be allocated for the staff who should be present at 6 am at the counting centre. The security room will be opened at 7.45 am and the EVMs will be handed over to the tables for counting.
