Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's son Abhijit Mukherjee today chose to tread on his father's path with his introduction speech at the Congress office here streaked with references to public sector units and the Nehruvian era.
Abhijit Mukherjee made his first public appearance today, as he was inducted as a party worker before filing nomination paper for the forthcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal.
He recently resigned from the post of General Manager (Corporate Social Responsibility) in the SAIL, to take up a career in politics by contesting elections for the first time from his home district, Birbhum.
“I have been working in CSR department a public sector company company, and wanted to carry forward the work further, thus decided to contest the elections. In fact, PSUs as an idea has been upheld since the time of Nehru,” said Abhijit Mukherjee in his short speech at a press meet here today.

Abhijit Mukherjee's speech was cut short by West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president Manas Bhunia, under whose tutelage Mukheree junior is expected to contest the elections.

Relatively shy, when compared to Congress' favourite troubleshooter, Pranab Mukherjee, Abhijit Mukherjee said, he wanted to be an “Aam Aadmi Ka Sipahi,” a concept popularised by Rahul Gandhi.
