Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas to go online

For the Indian diaspora who are unable to participate in the 6th Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas, 2008, there is good news as the event is set to go live through web streaming.
 
The government has allowed live webcast of the events which will enable the Indian diaspora to view it on their computer screens.
 
"The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs has accepted our proposal to make the event available to the entire Indian diaspora free, live and accessible through broadband," said Munish Gupta, chairman and CEO, PIOTV.Com. His company, he says, has been has been short-listed by the government to carry out the new initiative. This initiative is set to touch 35 million strong Indian diaspora.
 
The event that is scheduled for January 8 and 9 is expected to bring in thousands of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and non-resident Indians (NRIs). Till now, only Doordarshan, carried the opening and closing ceremonies live on its channel 'DD India'.
