Preschool chain Kids Campus is eyeing the backwaters in Uttar Pradesh for literacy growth in the state.
The Bangalore-based company is targeting to launch 20 ‘grameen’ preschools by March 2011 in Uttar Pradesh.
“Preschool segment is growing by 35 per cent in India, but it doesn’t take into account the rural market potential,” Kids Campus Education Managing Director Vickaash Agarwal told Business Standard. He said this segment was growing fast but only in the urban pockets.
While preschools are gaining currency, they are generally popular in the urban sectors because of the high investment involved. “We want to launch our rural preschool model as this segment remains untouched in India,” he said. “In the rural preschool model, we have simplified procedures and the initial investment and recurring expenses would be low,” he said. Across India the company plans to launch 40 ‘grameen’ preschools in the financial year 2010-2011.
