President Pratibha Patil today called for “urgent steps towards a Second Green Revolution” and some “out-of-the-box thinking” even as the food prices show no sign of calming down. In her pre-Republic Day speech, Patil harped on increasing agriculture productivity with the use of “new technologies, better seeds, improved farming practices, effective water management techniques, as well as more intense frameworks for connecting the farmer with the scientific community, with lending institutions and with markets”.
She also asked for better delivery system to achieve desired results.
Barely a month before the second UPA government unfolds its second General Budget, Patil today announced that it would continue with its growth-oriented policies.
