The President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil has congratulated G Madhavan Nair, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) and his team for the successful launch of Chandrayaan – 1.
“This day shall go down as a landmark in our space programme, a day which will inspire our space scientists to further work on our mission to put an Indian astronaut into space using an Indian space capsule. I am keenly looking forward to the entry of Chandrayaan–1 into the Lunar orbit a few days from now,” Patil said in a message to Nair.
Chandrayaan-I intends to put a spacecraft into an orbit around the moon to map its nearest celestial neighbour for about two years with eleven payloads (scientific instruments).
It would reach the moon surface in the second week of November. Later, the moon impact probe would be ejected from Chandrayaan-1 over the moon surface in a chosen area.
