Although the non-UPA, non-NDA consortium of 13 parties is set to bring a cut motion against price rise — a mere populist posture reflecting the common Indian sentiment — it would ensure that the motion dies a natural death without creating much ripples in the Lok Sabha on April 27.
CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury made it clear that their move to bring a cut motion was not to “destabilise the government”.
The parties have decided not to issue a whip to make it mandatory for their MPs to vote against the government and, in doing so, has also created a safe passage for errant partners. CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta today said, “Some of our MPs will not be present in the House to vote for the cut motion as they would be busy in their respective states to organise the all-India strike.”
The rainbow partnership, comprising the CPI-M, CPI, AIADMK, TDP, SP and RJD, among others, is also maintaining a safe distance from the BJP that has announced a cut motion on the issue.
However, BJP leader Gopinath Munde today said they are ready to join hands with other parties on the issue of price rise and are even ready to support a cut motion.
