Young Congress MP and late cine star Sunil Dutt's daughter Priya Dutt is hopeful that the vexed issue of 33 per cent reservation of seats for women in Parliament would be translated into reality by the new government. Dutt is also optimistic that the new Cabinet will have more young faces. "I really do. I think this can happen seeing the numbers we (women MPs) have," Dutt said when asked whether she foresee that 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament could become a reality this time.
To another question about women not getting enough representation in Lok Sabha, Dutt said, "This time women's number has definitely increased...This a beginning. We will see this figure changes in Assembly and Corporation elections."
Asked about youth joining the party, the Congress MP gave the credit for it to AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi's leadership. "Rahul has greatly attracted youth. Youth are able to relate to him. It's a great move forward," she said adding that there are more young faces in Lok Sabha this time.
Asked whether Rahul Gandhi should join Cabinet, she said, "I will be very happy but this will be a personal decision of Rahul Gandhi and the party high command." Dutt, however, parried questions on why there is a scramble among political parties to support the new UPA government.
