The Professionals Party of India (PPI), a two-year-old political party registered with the Election Commission of India, is looking to expand its base. The party set up by professionals with the objective of improving the quality of life of Indians was set up by like-minded people trying to bring about a change by getting representatives to represent citizens in the Parliament.
“Educated professionals who care about the welfare of this great country got together and decided that the only way change can be brought about is to wholly and deeply immerse into the governance of India,” said R V Krishnan, president, PPI.
The party has vigorously pursued its campaigning around the ‘Need to Change’ the governance of India and is in the process of establishing local chapters in various cities.
Krishnan added that there are thousands of like-minded people who are willing to take up initiatives, but are not left with many options. “It is here we give them a platform to get involved and get elected so that citizens like us get a voice in the Parliament.”
Recent developments like Capt Gopinath and Meera Sanyal standing for election is a good sign that professionals are keen to get in to governance. Instead of standing as independents, getting together in the form of a party may further the cause,” Krishnan added.
