The government has not received a single application from any foreign bank to open a new branch in the country during the current year, suggesting aggressive branch expansion may not be an option that would be exercised by most banks to increase their presence in the market.
The banks are instead relying on automated teller machines (ATMs) to widen their business network.
A senior finance ministry official said: "Over the years, the number of appl
