Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyan (Visaka) is a scheme launched by the Union HRD ministry under which heads of educations institutions have been advised to give students credits for taking forward the Centre's financial literacy campaign for a cashless economy, reported The Telegraph.
"Directors of all institutions should ensure that the necessary credit in academics for project work is given to the student volunteers of Visaka," said an HRD ministry note.
The HRD ministry is not supposed to give directions on what constitutes as academic credit, the Telegraph reported.
"Each institution has its own academic forum to decide academic matters. They are supposed to take a call," the faculty member told Telegraph.

The government's note said, "It would be the responsibility of the Directors to ensure that the presentation on different digital modes of payment is downloaded & translated into the concerned regional language, apart from English and circulated in their areas of operation."
A note on HRD Ministry's website says, The purpose of the 'Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyan' is to actively engage the youth/students of Higher Education institutions to encourage and motivate all payers and payees to use a digitally enabled cashless economic system for transfer of funds.
It further adds, all heads of higher educational institutions should plan for a cashless campus, within a limited time-frame, for all transactions within the campus.
NCC/NSS volunteers of an institute may take up a major market and interact with shop owners, including vendors, and their associations with an objective of developing a cashless market focusing on each point of sale.
