Villagers of Gadakujanaga area near Paradip stopped four container trucks heading towards Posco construction site in the early morning on Tuesday, over non-fulfillment of their demands.
The villagers said they do not oppose the Posco steel plant, but need commitment for fulfillment of their demands which includes providing jobs to all persons who will lose land for the project and change in survey method of betel vines.
Out of six such trucks, two have reached the site where the South Korean steel maker is building its mill.
The state government has become active in the construction work of the steel mill after the steel company sought definite timeline recently on construction of the approach road.
Indicating public support for the controversial project, the government said that about 509 villagers from the area have requested to survey their betel vines and demanded compensation accordingly.
Meanwhile, anti-Posco group has announced not to let any government official enter into Dhinkia and Gobindpur village and said it will oppose the construction of coastal road to Posco site.·he contractor appointed by Posco officials had to abruptly stop the road construction work couple of months ago as protesters attacked the workers and had bombed the site.
The protesters have once again decided to show their strength after the arrest of the anti-Posco leader Abhaya Sahu last week on the basis of previous allegations. Former MLA and CPI leader Narayan Reddy has taken over the leadership and the group is also planning to invite eminent lawyer and member of noted social activist Anna Hazare·team- Prashant Bhushan on December 10.
