Power Trading Corporation (PTC) is in talks with the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam to sell power to the state. |
TN Thakur, chairman and managing director of the corporation, told Business Standard here that the corporation was already providing short-term power supply to the state. "We have proposed long-term agreements, under which power supply will start after five years and last up to 10-20 years," he said. |
Thakur said the corporation was anticipating a shortfall of 4,000 Mw in Haryana by 2012. The total deficit was being anticipated at 8,000 Mw, but the state had already tied up for 4,000 Mw, he added. |
The PTC chairman said the corporation had a turnover of Rs 2,000 crore and was trading 2,500 Mw power. After achieving success in short-term projects, the corporation was emphasising on long-term ones, he said. |
He said Punjab would have a power deficit of 4,000-5,000 Mw by 2011-12. The state is keen to buy power from the PTC. But the demand for power in Punjab is inconsistent because it depends on the need of farmers. So Punjab was a deficit state in some part of the year and surplus in other times, he said. |
He said the PTC had set up advisory services units to advise the state electricity departments about the optimum use of power, open access and financial packages. The PTC could also start supplying power to private distribution firms and units, he said. |
On Chandigarh, he said the Union Territory faced a surplus situation in winters and deficit in summers. |
Calculated on a normative basis, he said transmission and distribution losses were 3-3.5 per cent in north, 4-4.5 per cent in west and 2-2.5 per cent in east. |
