Refusing to get enthused over the AICTE’s (All India Council For Technical Education) decision of raising the security fees for new as well as existing technical colleges applying for renewal, for the academic session 2011-12, colleges in Punjab have demanded a review of the decision.
According to the Punjab Un-Aided Technical Institutions Association (PUTIA), security fees for polytechnic colleges has been raised from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 50 lakh while for engineering colleges it has been raised to Rs 90 lakhs from Rs 50 lakhs.
A few months ago, AICTE had announced a change in revision of norms both for new institutes as well as existing ones applying for renewal.
PHD Chamber Punjab Education Committee Convener and Aryan Group Colleges Chairman Anshu Kataria maintained, the change in norms by AICTE declared for the Academic session 2011-12 did not augur well for the education sector as a whole and could impede corporate movement into the education sector, which will not be a positive sign.
Kataria added “I am planning to open a New Engineering College and the decision to raise security fees would definitely impact the decision, though exactly not halt it.
Kataria maintained the decision of sudden increase in fees by AICTE has definitely stalled the expansion plans for most colleges.
PUTIA President J S Dhaliwal said, the fees for technical colleges have been raised in an arbitrary manner.
