The Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation (Punjab Infotech) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Electronics & Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) for relocation of hardware industries of Singapore, South Korea and Japan to Punjab.
They have also agreed to promote development of information technology, business process outsourcing (BPO) and IT-enabled services, and make a joint effort towards the growth of the electronics and computer software services industry in Punjab.
The pact was signed during the IndiaSoft 2003, an International Exhibition & Conference at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi, on February 21, 2003.

Punjab was a partner state in the event.
ESC will also open an office in Punjab. The office space will be provided by Punjab Infotech at Chandigarh.
Punjab Infotech also signed a pact with Supertech Software & Hardware Private Ltd (SSPHL) for providing e-learning virtual school solution. The pact covers virtual school with excellent contents for students from primary to class XII.
The corporation had set up a pavilion and a presentation on availability of infotech infrastructure in the state was made.
Representatives of several software, infotech and electronics companies evinced keen interest in opportunities available in the state, said N S Kalsi, managing director of Punjab Infotech.
The availability of excellent infrastructure, incentives under the new industrial policy, venture capital fund, social infrastructure in Chandigarh proved major attractions, he added.
