The Punjab excise and taxation department has hired PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as its consultant for system integration. The system integration will enable the department to manage various functions more efficiently besides putting in place a citizen services domain. PwC is likely to submit its report within 10 weeks.

Speaking to Business Standard, excise and taxation commissioner A Venu Prasad said, “By hiring PwC as our consultant, we intend to streamline our tax administration and improve its functioning in order to bring efficiency, transparency and accountability. PwC will study our current infrastructure and suggest the best of the infrastructure which is being used in other states within 10 weeks.”

PwC will give suggestions on improving the current set up. For example, there are bandwidth problems at some places, while there exists local area network (LAN) and software-related problems at some other places, he said.

The objective is to focus on implementation of an electronic workflow system to improve internal administrative efficiency, faster processing and monitoring, resulting in a better and transparent delivery of service to tax payers.
