In order to develop dairy farming and encourage the youth to adopt it as a lucrative business in Punjab, the state government has decided to give a 25 per cent subsidy on the purchase of milch cattle.

An advanced institute of dairy farming would be set up in the state in collaboration with Israeli firm Dairy Farming Solutions. The institute would also provide technical assistance for the scientific handling and processing of milk.

Announcing this here on Monday, Punjab Dairy Development Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur said that hi-tech dairy units would be set up in the state and the subsidy funds for setting them up with two to 10 animals would be deposited in the accounts of beneficiaries once the unit was set up.

The minister also said that in order to promote dairy farming as an alternative venture to agriculture, the dairy development department has launched a comprehensive training programme for young dairy farmers in the state.
