In a significant decision, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today gave approval to set up solar power canal cover project to generate solar power by utilising the space over the canals in the state.

A decision to this effect was taken in a high level meeting held under the chairmanship of Badal here at Chief Minister’s residence. The P4P Private Ltd. would establish a 1 MW solar canal cover as a pilot project over the space allocated to them by the state government for this project which would also save canal water up to 5 million gallons a year by reducing evaporation, in addition to utilise the space over the canals thereby saving land space.

It was informed in the meeting that by establishing these solar canal cover power generation systems, Punjab would become the first state not in the country but even in the world after US.
