The Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Authority (FDCA) has recently cracked down on a counterfeit drug making outfit and has seized a stock of 1034 injections.
H G Koshia, commissioner Gujarat FDCA informed that his department had raided Morware Laboratories in north Gujarat that was selling fake veterinary injections with the name of 595 Depot 750.
He added that the veterinary injection contains an active compound called Hydroxy Progesterone which is used for the treatment of conception in animals. Moreware Laboratories was manufacturing and selling the fake injections of this medicine.
On receiving the information that some shops are selling this fake medicine, the department raided on the places like Tharad, Dhanera, Patan and Modasa in north Gujarat and seized 1034 injections along with the injection filing machine, batch coding machine and Benzyl Benzonet which was used for making fake medicine.
"The department has taken up legal proceeding against the accused Vinod Patel, Sanjya Prajapati, Dhiren Nayak, Sanjay Arora, Hirabhai Chaudhary and Vikram Makwana and is further looking into the issue," Koshiya informed.
The FDCA, meanwhile, is all set to implement an online drug alert system for retailers through short messaging service (SMS).
The service, which is awaiting approval from the state health department, will enable pharmaceutical stockists and druggists to receive an SMS from the Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Authority (FDCA) about sub-standard drugs on the basis of test reports at its drug testing laboratory.
