The minister announced price cuts for AC-I and AC-II fares by 18% and 10%, respectively.

"The Railways will introduce 55 new trains during 2006-07," the minister added.

Passenger tariff structure will be rationalised so that that the fares of AC first class and AC second class will be 11.5 times and 6.5 times the second class fares, respectively, the minister said.

Fully air conditioned `Garib Rath' (Poor's Chariot) will be run on a pilot basis with four pairs of services with fares being about 25% lower than the present AC-III tier fares.

The renewal period of monthly season tickets has been increased from three days to ten days, and the superfast charges applicable on monthly and quarterly season tickets have been reduced to one-fourth of the current level.
