The Orissa chief minister, Naveen Patnaik has termed the Union Railway Budget for 2010-11 as totally disappointing for the state.
Stating that Orissa has not got its due once again from the Railways, Patnaik said, “Orissa has got only Rs 836.64 crore as against our demand of Rs 1805 crore. This is despite the fact that Indian Railways earns more than Rs 6000 crore from various stations in Orissa and the average per km earning of Railways in Orissa is approximately twice the national average.”
Patnaik also vented his displeasure over the fact that only one new railway line has been sanctioned in the Railway Budget whereas the state had placed the demand for 13 new railway line.
Moreover, only nine new trains have been announced for Orissa as against our demand for 20 new trains, he added.
The chief minister pointed out that the Railways ministry was yet to implement many railway projects announced for the state in the previous Railway Budget.
No action has been taken on setting up two world class stations, seven Adarsha stations, two multi-functional complexes and a medical college which were announced for Orissa in the last Railway Budget, he stated.
