Railways to carry flood relief material for free

In view of the unprecedented floods in Orissa, the Ministry of Railways has decided to transport all relief materials meant for the flood victims in the state free of cost.

The booking for such relief material can be made by any organisation be it government or private or even a non-government organisation (NGO).

These relief materials are to be booked in the name of the respective district collectors or the special relief commissioner of the state and the bookings can be done from any railway station in the country.

AK Goyal, the general manager of East Coast Railway (ECoR) has advised all the staff members of the zonal railway to accord topmost priority to the transportation of such relief material.

Meanwhile, the commercial department of ECoR distributed relief material in the form of 10 quintals of flattened rice, five quintals of jagery, 50 packets of water pouches, along with biscuits and bread in the flood affected areas of Banki in Cuttack district.

In another development, it has been decided to run the Howrah-Yeshvantpur express on its normal route via Visakhapatnam–Bhadrak –Kharagpur from September 25.

This train was running on diverted route owing to breaches in the Kharagpur-Bhadrak section of South-Eastern Railway in the Howrah-Chennai main line caused by the floods in West Bengal and North Orissa.

The service of the Dibrugarh Town-Chennai express which was cancelled, will be resumed from September 28.

Moreover, it has also been decided to run special trains to clear the extra rush of wait listed passengers during the festive period.

0803 Howrah –Mysore special train will leave Howrah at 4:10 pm on October 3 and 10. In the return direction, 0804 Mysore - Howrah special train will leave Mysore at 8:45 pm on October 5 and 12.

0746 Hyderabad –Howrah special train will leave Hyderabad at 11:00 pm on October 1, 3, 5 and 7. Similarly, 0745 Howrah –Hyderabad special train will leave Howrah at 4:40 pm on October 3, 5, 7 and 10 and it will run via Kharagpur, Bhadrak, Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam.

0509 Visakhapatnam –Nizamabad weekly special train will leave Visakhapatnam at 7:40 pm on every Tuesday from October 7- December 30.

Apart from running of these special trains, the Puri-New Delhi Neelachal express will be augmented with one additional sleeper class coach from both the directions.

While one sleeper class coach will be added to this train leaving Puri on September 27, another sleeper coach will be added to the train leaving New Delhi on September 29.
