Rain water harvesting mandatory from May: Karnataka CM

House owners in Bangalore will have till May end to adopt rain water harvesting facilities as the Karnataka government set a deadline for that month to install Rain Water Harvesting systems.

The decision was taken at a high level meeting here, chaired by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, to review the flood situation caused by unseasonal rains that batterred the city in the last three days. Law Minister S Suresh Kumar, Transport and Home Minister R Ashoka, Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje, Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara palike Commissioner Siddaiah, Chief Secretary S V Ranganath and other top officials attended the meeting.

Yeddyurappa said he has directed officials to take steps to clear encroachments along storm water drains which has triggered flash floods and inundated low lying areas.

Rains have claimed three lives in the city and caused property loss to the tune ofRs 9 crore, officials said.
