Taking Indian road building technology to world standards will be one of the subjects of discussion at a national-level seminar to be held in Mysore this weekend. |
The national seminar on highways will be held on December 11 and 12 here. Being organised by the Builders' Association of India (BIA), Mysore chapter, over 300 delegates are expected to participate. This assumes significance in the background of the increasing activity in road connectivity in Karnataka, particularly in Mysore. |
As part of the seminar, the fourth edition of the Mybuild exhibition will also be held from December 9 to 13 at the same venue. On display at the exposition will be a wide range of construction material, equipment, machinery and accessories. |
Highlighting the features of the seminar, organising committee chairman K Sriram said that around Rs 5,000 crore is expected to be invested on road building activities over the next few years, improving the much-desired road network in the state. |
Some of the major road projects coming up are the Mysore-Bangalore four-lane highway, Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project, upgrading of the Bangalore-Mysore highway via. Kanakapura to a National Highway, Mysore-Mangalore highway via. Kodagu, Mysore-Manandavadi and Srirangapatna-Bidar highway projects. Some state highways are also being upgraded to National Highways. |
The lack of good road connectivity has hit industrial and economic activity in places like Mysore, which is gaining prominence as an alternative to Bangalore for investments from global technology companies. |
Inadequate infrastructure is choking up Bangalore and a few major companies are looking towards facilities elsewhere. Improved road connectivity therefore will go a long way in stepping up commercial and industrial activity in secondary cities like Mysore. |
He noted that road building technology in the country was at least two decades behind world standards. It is only now that it is striving to reach global standards. |
Leading speakers of national and international repute will deal with the subject and other issues at the seminar. |
The Mybuild exhibition, which has gained in prominence over the last three years, will focus on innovative and emerging technologies in construction sector, Mybuild organising committee chief U M Gurushantappa said. Last year, it attracted around 40,000 visitors and this year efforts are on to make it much more attractive for the anticipated 60,000 visitors. |
